Please note that the health of your locs will be monitored and recommendations provided if necessary for regular or irregular schedule.

Are the Locticians licensed cosmetologists?

J Spot Wholistic Salon is a trailblazing sole proprietor business in the field of Wholistic Loc Care. Thanks to the fearless work of Isis Brantley, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2717 into law on June 8, 2015, deregulating natural hair braiding for the Texas Barbering and Cosmetology professions. Isis Brantley, who owns a braiding school in Dallas known as the Institute for Ancestral Braiding. was arrested in 1997 for not having a cosmetology license. She fought the regulations for over 10 years, including those that required her to convert her braiding school into a barber college. Finally, in January 2015, she won her case, when a federal judge ruled that the laws in Texas regarding cosmetology licenses for natural hair were unconstitutional and did not have any benefit to public health and safety.

We are living the visions of our ancestors. There is no state board that could teach that.

These two bills deregulate statewide regulation of hair shampooing and conditioning and eliminate shampoo apprentice permits and shampoo specialty certificates for the Texas Barbering and Cosmetology professions.
